Day 1: Arrival in Colombo – Transfer to Wilpattu

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest and oldest wildlife sanctuary. Relax in a jungle lodge or safari camp. Overnight stay near Wilpattu.

Day 2: Full-Day Safari in Wilpattu

Embark on a full-day jeep safari through Wilpattu, known for its elusive leopards, sloth bears, elephants, and countless “villus” (natural lakes) that attract birds and mammals. Enjoy picnic-style meals in the park. Overnight in Wilpattu.

Day 3: Wilpattu to Anuradhapura – Ancient Lakes & Ruins

Travel to the ancient city of Anuradhapura and explore its grand reservoirs, such as Nuwara Wewa and Tissa Wewa, which have served the city for centuries. Visit select ruins and enjoy birdwatching around these historical lakes. Overnight in Anuradhapura.

Day 4: Anuradhapura to Sigiriya via Kala Wewa

Drive to Sigiriya, stopping at Kala Wewa Reservoir, famous for the serene Avukana Buddha Statue and surrounding forest birdlife. Arrive in Sigiriya and unwind at a nature retreat. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 5: Safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park

Enjoy a jeep safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla, depending on the movement of the elephants. Witness “The Gathering” – one of Asia’s largest wild elephant congregations near ancient water tanks. Ideal for photographers and nature lovers. Overnight in Sigiriya.

Day 6: Sigiriya to Wasgamuwa National Park

Travel to the less-visited Wasgamuwa National Park, known for its raw wilderness, rich biodiversity, and fewer crowds. Enjoy an afternoon safari in search of elephants, deer, sloth bears, and vibrant birdlife. Overnight in a nearby eco-lodge.

Day 7: Nature Trails & River Time

Start the day with a nature walk or guided trail near Wasgamuwa’s buffer zone. Later, unwind by the Mahaweli River or enjoy a gentle boat ride. Discover the local flora, fauna, and learn about conservation efforts. Overnight in Wasgamuwa.

Day 8: Return to Colombo – Departure

Drive back to Colombo through lush countryside, with optional stops at Sembuwatta Lake or Kandy depending on time. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight, bringing the jungle-and-lake adventure to a close.
